When
I joined FFA as a high school freshman I had no idea the impact that my
experiences in the organization would have on my life and career.
I
remember attending national FFA convention in 1986 that year and being
wowed by the opportunities and excitement of FFA. From that moment I was
motivated to be involved with all that the organization had to offer.
My experiences in high school and during my state officer years gave me a
foundational set of skills that I have benefited from my entire career.
From public speaking and parliamentary procedure to record keeping and
ag education, those are all skills and knowledge I use in my job every
day.
During
my time as an FFA member, I competed in Creed Speaking and Public
Speaking, won the Sustainable Agriculture proficiency at the state
level, served as chapter president and earned my Iowa FFA Degree. I also
had the honor of serving as the Iowa FFA state secretary and Iowa FFA
state president.
Beyond that, I have so many personal friendships and professional relationships with people whom I first met through FFA. In my role at DuPont Pioneer I interact daily with people whom I first met through FFA; when I look through a resume as a hiring manager, those candidates with FFA experiences always rise to the top because I have an appreciation for the skills that candidate will have because of their FFA involvement.
